“greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people…”
No sooner had Peter finished proclaiming hope in Jesus Christ than the religious leaders came after him attempting to shut him down. I love the way the ESV words it. The leaders we “greatly annoyed” because of Peter and John preaching hope in Jesus.
Religious people always get annoyed when people start getting too serious about Jesus. Whether they are church going religious pretenders, or secular religious people who worship themselves, they can’t stand it when the name of Jesus comes up. It’s annoying because Jesus is the one who raises the dead, delivers the sinner, and sets the captive free.
Religion is satisfied with sin and bondage as long as things are comfortable. But when Jesus gets involved power is unleashed that changes lives forever. Today I challenge you to become very annoying. Refuse to settle for a life of complacent religion and let Jesus come with his power and love to make your life excellent for the master. Annoy the devil today by giving it all to the Lord Jesus. Serve him with all your heart and watch the demons flee.
