Read Acts 4:14
“But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them they had nothing to say…”
The best way to silence the critics is to simply be who you are in Jesus and let him work through you. Critics feed on the ambiguity of religious theory. They love nothing more than to get God’s people in a debate on the finer points of faith. They play their mind games with silly questions: “Can God make a rock so big that he can’t move it?” and similar acts of buffoonery. Many believers lose endless nights of sleep because some slick debater caught them in an intellectual net with some cleverly devised word game.
The religious leaders tried to tie Peter and John in a net of intimidation and force them to either confess or argue their way into a quick execution. But the Apostles just stood there in their position in Christ and let his work do the talking. What can you say when a miracle is looking you in the eye with a silly grin? How can you debate with a transformed life? Friends I am convinced that the greatest evidence for Jesus Christ is Jesus Christ himself. When his power is unleashed through our lives the critics have two choices, believe or try to rationalize it away, as some often do.
There are those, who as Jesus said, “will not believe even if someone is raised from the dead.” But there are also those, like the centurion who stood at the foot of the cross as Jesus was saving the world from its cynical death march, and said, “Surely this is the Son of God!” Today let the Lord prove himself as you simply walk in his love and power, and reach out to those who need his hands.
