Your Day in Court

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body whether good or evil.” ( 2 Corinthians 5:10)

Today I am made keenly aware that you and I have a coming day in court. Every person who reads this shares this common destiny. We will all appear before the judgment seat of Jesus Christ. There are no exceptions, no loopholes, no bargains behind closed doors. Ever person will stand in the presence of the Lord Jesus and give an account of the things we have done in this life. Preachers and pimps, teachers and television stars, politicians and plumbers, coal miners and corporate executives, republicans and democrats, dictators and dance stars all will stand side by side in the presence of the Holy one to receive what is due. Are you prepared?

Are you really prepared for the day of all days when every action of your life will pass through the fire test of Holy inspection? On this day all the secrets will be exposed and all the personal dramas will be brought to a conclusion. The day will come when the unseen activities of every person will be brought to light. Every corrupt deal along with every charitable gift will be proclaimed on the roof tops. Many who have cruised through life taking advantage of others while hiding their deeds behind pious words and lofty looks will find themselves at a loss on that day while many who spent their lives serving the Lord thinking their deeds of mercy would never be recognized will be surprised by unspeakable joy as the master says, “well done good and faithful servant.” I ask you again are you prepared?

On that day of all days we will have no time to look around and see what is being exposed in someone else’s life. The horror of our own sin will be far too great to afford any sense of self satisfaction. Suddenly all our rationalizing will be exposed as sheer foolishness as the truth we have twisted for our own benefit suddenly calls us to account. Saint and sinner alike will stand before the holy one. On that day God will not ask what we thought of each other. None will be judged by the opinions of their peers but by our obedience to Jesus Christ. We will all step into eternity some to life and some to death. No one will be able to lobby debate or beg for a second chance. No one will be able to brag about good deeds or cast blame for bad deeds. I say again are you prepared?

How do you prepare for your day in court? There is only one way. Turn from your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ. Begin to follow him and serve him. Only through his death and resurrection can you hope to find life. Turn to him today.
