Read Luke 13:1-5
“Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Osama Bin Laden is dead. Unless something happened in his soul that we don’t know about he is perishing in hell as you read this. This man who is responsible for the deaths of so many innocent people is likely facing eternal torment for his sin. Justice has been served and the eternal sentence is decreed. There is no second chance, no probationary angel assignment that can win him eternal life. There is no hope for this lost soul. He is gone forever, and like it or not all of heaven grieves at the loss of another soul.
Somewhere in our community another man is dead. Bob was a decent hard working family man. He had a nice job, a nice home and drove a nice car. He got along with most people, went to ball games, gave to charity, and even stopped by the church a few times in his life. He wasn’t too bad a guy. He just minded his own business and lived a pretty good life. There was only one problem. Bob never saw any need for being saved from his sins. He figured he was a good enough guy and didn’t get into any trouble. Whenever anyone approached him about the gospel and the need for all people to be saved he listened politely but never really took it too seriously. He told people he believed in God but never really went beyond that. You may not like what I’m about to say next. Bob is in the same Hell that Bin Laden dwells in. And Heaven grieves for him too.
Jesus explains it like this. In Luke 13 it tells us how some people came to Jesus and told him about some people in town who had been killed by Pilate, the Governor. Listen to what he says in response; “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this way? No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Then Jesus went on to say, “Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them; Do you think they were worse offenders than all others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
You see, in the eyes of a Holy God all sin is worthy of eternal punishment. The only hope for anyone, whether a master terrorist or a good old boy who just wants to get along, is Jesus Christ. He was crucified to pay the death penalty for your sins. Then he rose again to open the only door to eternal life. He shed sinless blood to pave the way to eternal life for anyone who will come to him by faith. How tragic to see so many perish in earthquakes, and storms over the last months. Only eternity can tell how many were prepared for forever. Are you prepared? If your storm comes today, will you be ready to face forever?
Oh friend, God doesn’t want you to die in your sin. He loved you so much that he took your sin on the cross and forgave it completely. Now the ball is in your court. Repent, or turn from, your sins and put your life in Jesus hands. Trust him to save you and then begin to follow him daily. Friends we are living in desperate days and cannot afford the luxury of putting God off until a more convenient time. It is sad that some who read this will disregard it and fall into eternity without hope. Now is the day of salvation. Don’t throw your soul away. Jesus calls everyone to repent and believe the good news. Hope is one prayer away. Why not receive him right now? Just call out to God and ask him to forgive you and come into your life. He will hear the most simple prayer. He will save you and fill your life with peace. He is waiting to hear your response. What you do in the next few seconds will be remembered for ever.
