Read Romans 1:2
“Which he promised beforehand…”
The gospel was not God’s emergency plan after some failure in the law. God had promised the message of salvation through his prophets long before John the Baptists voice was heard echoing across the Judean wilderness. In fact John’s gospel tells us, in speaking of Jesus, “He was in the beginning with God..”
When Adam and Eve sinned against God in the garden, and God made animal skins to cover their nakedness, he was giving the first hint of his plan to save through the death of his son. When Enoch walked with God and was taken without facing death God was giving a signal that one day his own Son would walk with him on the earth and defeat death. When the blood of a lamb was swiped across the doorposts to protect the captive children of Israel from the death angel, God was saying one day the blood of the lamb will cover those who apply it to their lives by faith. On and on we could go through the Old Testament seeing the signals of salvation God was giving us through his people Israel until the fullness of time came. So what does any of that have to do with our lives today?
We need to understand that God has had your salvation in mind from the beginning of time. God has been planning your home coming since before you even left home. We often treat our salvation as if it were some flimsy last minute deal God worked out just in time to save you. How far that is from the truth! If it is true then, that long before you ever sinned, or were even born, God was already preparing a way for you to be saved, how much more is God prepared to meet the challenges you will face today? Please don’t insult the Spirit of God today by thinking God is just as surprised at your problems and failures as you are. God is not caught off guard by your failures.
God is not disappointed at your falling. Think about it this way. The only way you can disappoint someone is if they think you are going to do one thing and you surprise them by doing something less. God knew what he was getting into when he saved you. You can’t disappoint God. You can fail to live up to his calling, but you will never find God doing a double take. God settled the question of His love for you long before you were able to ask it. So rest in his love today and know that your papa in heaven has you safe in his hands. And God is not disappointed in you.
