“According to a recent Carnegie Mellon University study and interviews with online administrators, over 50 pornographic sites are added to the Web each day and nearly 80% of all graphic files distributed within Usenet newsgroups are pornographic. Children and adults can easily access this material both intentionally and accidentally via keyword searches, URL spelling errors, and trial and error with obvious URLs (Web site addresses). Even innocent searches for words like “toys”, “pets” and “boys” or “girls” can yield links to explicit, hard-core sites.”(1)
This was written over 10 years ago. Since then, online pornography has exploded and proliferated even more. Many of these websites have unrestrained and “free” open access to hard core pornography, depicting every perverse sex act imaginable. This trade ensnares old and young alike. Laws meant to restrict this spread of lewd and perverse imagery are often shielded by the 1st Amendment.
The viewing of pornography has become an addiction for many, including followers of Christ. The addiction is often compared to the chemical addiction of drugs, by many experts. There are many online resources available to believers to deal with the use of Pornography. We will be addressing this topic more in future articles. Here is one resource to begin your study:
3 Bible Tips on Avoiding Pornography and Lust (2)
- Looking with lust is mental adultery. Matthew 5:27-29
- Like all sins, the best way to avoid pornography is to avoid the source. Block such sites on your computer, etc. 1 Corinthians 6:18
- God’s Spirit can give us help to avoid giving in to lust. Galatians 5:16
