Read Ephesians 3:8-13
“This was according to the eternal purpose…”
The gospel wasn’t God’s plan B. God didn’t suddenly look at the world lost in its sin, and wring his holy hands trying to think of something to do. He wasn’t pacing around the halls of glory trying to decide how to save humanity, after his first plan failed, then in a moment of panic scream out, ” Hey son I need a favor!”
God’s plan to save humanity through the cross and resurrection is as old as time itself. God looked down through the ages and saw the track humanity would take and determined that when the perfect time came he would come to earth in human form and save us from ourselves. Now comes the big question. Why, if God knew humanity would choose the path of sin and death, did God bother to go through all the pain and agony of creation and human history? Why bother?
I believe it is because God looked down through history and saw the look of redemption in your eyes and decided you were worth the struggle. He looked ahead and saw the faith, hope and love that his grace would produce in your life and decided you were worth dying for even before you were born.
You see God does not operate as we do. In our world we only invest ourselves in that which will cost us little or nothing. We determine how committed we will be by asking ourselves how easy a thing will be. But God says of his creation, “I will go through hell itself to see the joyous look of redemption in the ones who trust me.” He says, “I will suffer the rejection of millions who prefer darkness in order to embrace the precious ones who embrace me by faith.”
Friend, remember today that in the eyes of God your worth was determined before time began. Before he said, “Let there be light.” He said, “You my child, are worth dying for.” Today, don’t waste your time trying to become acceptable to the fickle culture in which you live. You have already been declared ultimately valuable by your creator. Today remember that you are worth dying for. So now comes another big question: Is love like that worth living for?
