Mystery verse- “The Lord” – A meditation

I have found that one way to allow the word of God to get deep into my heart is to break it apart and prayerfully reflect on one section at a time. So for the next few days I will be sharing a verse that has meant a lot to me lately. But I will only share one part at a time. Let’s practice this meditative discipline for the next few days. I wonder if you can figure out what verse it is before we’re done.

Today take a few minutes and ponder the first two words of this verse. “The Lord…” Before reading any further just turn that phrase over in your mind and let it soak into your spirit. Allow God to speak to you from it. Don’t pull out your concordance or anything, just let your heart receive it.

You may want to just repeat it over and over as a prayer. “The Lord…” – What does that phrase say to you? What thoughts or feelings come to mind? Pay attention to what the Spirit may whisper into your thoughts. You may want to write it down as a prayer to God. After a few minutes you may or may not want to read the meditation to follow.

Meditation: “Lord, forgive me for calling you Lord so thoughtlessly, so religiously. I live in a culture that has no idea of what it means to be under Lordship. I resist sovereign rule over my life. I want my own vote, my own choices, and my own way. But to make you Lord means that I lose all rights to myself and my life. It also means that I am embedded in your sovereign care and must allow myself to be utterly dependent upon you my sovereign protector and provider. Help me Lord to make you Lord in everything, not just the things I want you to manage for me. Amen.”
