Founders Without Whom America Would Not Exist

By Chuck Baldwin
June 30, 2011

As we enter another Independence Day weekend, I think it would be good to remind ourselves of who those men were that counted the cost and paid the price to bring this land of liberty into existence. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans today seem to have very little–if any–knowledge and appreciation for the sacrifices that our Founding Fathers made in order to birth this great country. We can thank the vast majority of our schools (including the institutions of higher learning), major media, political institutions, and even churches for this egregious embarrassment. Accordingly, I think it fitting that today’s column will attempt to renew in our hearts the respect and reverence that these great men whom we call Founding Fathers so richly deserve.

George Washington

Called “The Father of His Country,” George Washington was, perhaps, the most important man of the founding era. Supernaturally spared during the Indian wars, Washington became the military leader who held the Continental Army together when it was virtually impossible for any man to do so. Without his leadership at Valley Forge and elsewhere, there is absolutely no doubt that the Continental Army would have fallen apart and the fight for independence would have been lost.

Equally significant is the leadership that George Washington demonstrated in the Continental Congress. Without question, Washington was the glue that held the political bodies of the colonies together. Then add the fact that George Washington was America’s first President, whose leadership solidified the colonies into a new United States, and his value to the cause of American independence cannot be in any way overstated.

Think of it: George Washington was the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. And he led that inferior army to victory over the greatest military force in the world at the time: Great Britain. Afterward, Washington rebuffed a strong effort to inaugurate him as America’s king, and led the fledgling nation to embrace republican government instead. Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention that drafted the US Constitution. He was America’s first President. Washington’s Farewell Address formed the compass and rudder of America for at least the next hundred years and, in my opinion, is the greatest political address ever delivered on American soil. Without George Washington, there would be no America.

 Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of America’s birth certificate: the Declaration of Independence. In my mind, there is no greater document of liberty ever written by man. When it came to the understanding of human rights, individual liberty, State rights, and enlightenment philosophy, Jefferson had no peer.

President John F. Kennedy once held a dinner at the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: “This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.” He was probably right.

Jefferson served in the Continental Congress; he was the first Secretary of State; he was the third President of the United States; he commissioned the Lewis and Clark expedition; he was the author of the Virginia Statute For Religious Freedom, which is regarded as one of the greatest declarations of religious liberty ever written; he spoke five languages and could read two others; he knew and influenced virtually every man who would be regarded as a Founding Father today; and he wrote nearly 16,000 personal letters. Had not the British burned much of it in the War of 1812, his library would probably go down as the greatest personal collection of literary works ever collected by one man. Without Thomas Jefferson, there would be no America.

 Patrick Henry

Patrick Henry was the colonies’ most ardent advocate of liberty–bar none! In oratorical genius, he has never had an equal. Henry was a self-educated lawyer, successful farmer, devoted father of 17 children, and five-term governor of Virginia. Henry was the first Founding Father to defy British taxes, and in so doing was the first who was willing to risk death as a traitor.

Patrick Henry’s immortal speech at St. John’s Church in Richmond to a gathering of the Virginia legislators in 1775 is regarded yet today as the most influential speech ever delivered on American soil. Probably more people are acquainted with that “Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death!” speech than any other public address ever delivered.

Henry’s contribution to the War for Independence cannot be underestimated. As Governor of Virginia (the richest and most populated of the 13 colonies), he supplied the largest share of arms and munitions to the outnumbered and poorly provisioned Continental Army. It was also Patrick Henry and his fellow Anti-Federalists who were primarily responsible for the first ten amendments to the Constitution (the Bill of Rights) being drafted and ratified. Without Patrick Henry, there would be no America.

 Samuel Adams

Samuel Adams is rightly called “The Father of the American Revolution.” He was a cousin to President John Adams and a graduate of Harvard. He was perhaps the most influential member of the Massachusetts State legislature. He succeeded John Hancock as Governor of Massachusetts. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He, along with men such as Dr. Joseph Warren, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Richard Henry Lee, and Josiah Quincy, Jr., created the “Committees of Correspondence,” which became the principle conduit of articles and letters of pro-revolution, pro-liberty, and pro-independence communication between the colonies. Adams was also very influential in the now-famous Boston Tea Party.

Sam Adams was so hated by the British government that they used military force to try and apprehend him, which led to both the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770, and the “Shot Fired Heard ’Round The World” at Lexington Green and Concord Bridge on April 19, 1775. Without Samuel Adams, there would be no America.

 James Madison

James Madison is properly called “The Father of The US Constitution.” He was the fourth President of the United States and was the principal author of the Bill of Rights. Madison authored more than a third of the Federalist Papers. Thomas Jefferson referred to the Federalist Papers as “The best commentary on the principles of government, which ever was written.” Madison served as US Representative from Virginia and as Secretary of State under Jefferson. George Washington considered Madison to be the preeminent authority on the US Constitution in the entire country.

Madison was a fervent proponent of the principle of divided power. He believed government (especially the federal government) could not be trusted with too much power and worked to ensure the separation of powers within the federal government. He also was a major proponent of State rights and sovereignty. Madison broke with Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton over Hamilton’s promotion of the State Bank, and together with Thomas Jefferson, formed what became known as the Democrat-Republican Party. Madison also co-authored with Jefferson two of the most prominent documents of liberty: the Kentucky and Virginia resolutions. Without James Madison, there would be no America.

As we celebrate Independence Day this year, I trust and pray that each of us will reacquaint ourselves with the principles upon which the Declaration of Independence was written, and upon which the United States of America was founded. And while we are doing that, let’s be sure we are passing these principles on to our children and grandchildren, because without their dedication and commitment to liberty, there will be no America!

P.S. Once again, in honor of Independence Day, we are offering THE FREEDOM DOCUMENTS: 50 of the greatest documents of American history in one volume, under one title. This volume is available nowhere else that we know of. We only have a few copies left, so order today!

You Lie… and you sin!

Written by Samuel Lawrence

The television show, “The X-Files” (1993-2002) had a catchphrase that said “The Truth IS Out There.”  Well, thanks to the Internet, the truth is not only out there, you can actually have it delivered to your desktop, laptop, and even your cell phone.

The current hot topic in Washington DC is the pending Government takeover of America’s healthcare, including public funding of abortions, hefty taxes on the middle class, forced coverage with fines for those not covered, and many other massive regulations, government intrusion into privacy, and the inevitable rationing of care that comes with every single socialized healthcare plan currently on the planet.

Our President promised his “sheeple” who got him elected “hope and change” but what they really got was “bait and switch.”  Here is a video by one of his faithful who are now realizing, too late, the ugly truth about the man from Chicago and his arm twisting henchmen.

Evidently, the “end justifies the means” to the current regime heading the Executive and Legislative branches of our Federal government.  It is astonishing to hear Nancy Pelosi defend and explain her twisted “moral” justification for abortion, which is nothing but pure Secular Humanism, nothing more, nothing less. Watch the video and decide for yourself.

To further demonstrate that this Liberal bunch of Socialists will do anything to push their agenda down the throats of America, listen to both the President and Speaker Nancy Pelosi lie through their teeth regarding public funding for abortions in the current Senate Healthcare bill that the President is STRONGLY urging the House to vote for.  Notice the smirk on both their faces as they talk down to the masses from their lofty “bully pulpits.”

(Many thanks to Cory Truax for the above video link.)

Obama’s message of “Hope and Change” has devolved into “Bait and Switch.”  The only hope America has for any meaningful change in the November 2010 election.  I hope and pray that the Lord will have mercy upon America, but this “power grabbing,” “freedom stealing” administration has more the appearance of divine judgement on a nation which has turned its back on the Lord, than just your average bunch of Liberals gone wild.

The Lord blesses nations and brings curses and loss of freedom to those who reject Him. The Bible says in Psalm 33:10-12 that

“The LORD foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.”

Consider Deuteronomy 30:1-7 in which the Lord speaks to the Children of Israel (His Chosen people) through Moses:

“I have told you everything the Lord your God will do for you, and I’ve also told you the curses he will put on you if you reject him. He will scatter you in faraway countries, but when you realize that he is punishing you, return to him with all your heart and soul and start obeying the commands I have given to you today. Then he will stop punishing you and treat you with kindness. He may have scattered you to the farthest countries on earth, but he will bring you back to the land that had belonged to your ancestors and make you even more successful and powerful than they ever were. You and your descendants are stubborn, but the Lord will make you willing to obey him and love him with all your heart and soul, and you will enjoy a long life. Then the Lord your God will remove the curses from you and put them on those enemies who hate and attack you.”

If the Lord God of Heaven promises this judgement to his chosen people, His elect, what more can a heathen and reprobate nation, overwhelmingly consumed with debauchery, hedonism and humanism, expect? Until America returns to the moral Judeo-Christian teachings she was founded upon, and repent from the chronic sin consuming her, we cannot expect the blessings of God, nor the liberty and freedom we once had, that made us great.

(1) “John Adams, had this principle in mind when he wrote, ‘Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.‘   Likewise, William Penn noted, ‘If we will not be governed by God, then we must be governed by tyrants.’ Yet, the nation ceased being a moral people. It ceased recognizing God. It should come as no surprise, then, that the Constitution, which allowed for a tremendous amount of liberty and granted few powers to the government, is now essentially a relic.”

I believe what we are witnessing  is this: we are now reaping the harvest of decades of sin.  America… Bless God!

You Might Be A Constitutionalist If . . .

By Chuck Baldwin

October 20, 2009

US ConstitutionI originally published this column back in January of 2005. Since then (and especially lately), many people have called and written with requests to republish it. So, with a few minor revisions, here it is.

More than thirty years as a student of American history, constitutional government, and the Holy Bible leads me to the conviction that the two major political parties in this country (at the national level) are equally culpable in stripping America of its founding principles. In my opinion, both the Democrat and Republican parties in Washington, D.C., have zero fidelity to the U.S. Constitution and zero respect for America’s foundational precepts.

In my studied opinion, neither the Democrat nor Republican Party (at the national level) has any intention of slowing the out-of-control expansion of government. Neither party has demonstrated any loyalty to preserving and protecting our constitutional form of government.

Like National Socialists and Soviet Socialists of old, the only thing that concerns Democrats and Republicans today is who is in power. Both are equally willing to destroy the freedoms and liberties of people without conscience or regret as long as their party remains in control.

I am absolutely convinced that without a renewed allegiance to constitutional government and State sovereignty, there can be no resolution to America’s current slide into socialism and oppression. Therefore, it is critical that we cast aside our infatuation with partisan politics and steadfastly stand firm for the principles of federalism and freedom, as did America’s founders.

Might you be a modern-day Minuteman who understands the principles of freedom and federalism? I offer the following test. Read it and see if you, too, are a Constitutionalist. (Yes, Martha, this is another Jeff Foxworthy spin-off.)

  1. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that every congressman, senator, President, and Supreme Court justice is required to obey the U.S. Constitution.
  2. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that before the United States invades and occupies another country, Congress must first declare war.
  3. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe the federal government should live within its means, like everyone else is forced to do.
  4. You might be a Constitutionalist if you think that taking away people’s liberties in the name of security is not patriotic, nor does it make the country more secure.
  5. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to see politicians be forced to abide by the same laws they make everyone else submit to.
  6. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that we have three “separate but equal” branches of government that are supposed to hold each other in check and balance.
  7. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government has no authority to be involved in education or law enforcement, or in any other issue that the Tenth Amendment reserves to the States, or to the People.
  8. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that gun control laws do nothing but aid and abet criminals while trampling the rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens.
  9. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the income tax is both unconstitutional and immoral, and, along with the I.R.S. and the Federal Reserve, should be abolished.
  10. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe the federal government had no authority to tell former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore that he could not display a monument containing the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building in Montgomery; or to tell a Pace, Florida, high school principal that he could not pray before a meal.
  11. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that Congress or the White House or any sovereign State is not required to submit to unconstitutional Supreme Court rulings.
  12. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that freedom has nothing in common with illegal immigration.
  13. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that outsourcing American jobs overseas is not good for America.
  14. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the United States should get out of the United Nations and get the United Nations out of the United States.
  15. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that it is not unconstitutional for children in public schools to pray or read the Bible.
  16. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the Boy Scouts are not a threat to America.
  17. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government should honor its commitments to America’s veterans and stop using U.S. military personnel as guinea pigs for testing drugs and chemicals.
  18. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that U.S. troops should never serve under foreign commanders or wear the uniform or insignia of the United Nations, and that they must never submit to illegal orders, such as turning their weapons against American citizens, or confiscating the guns of U.S. citizens.
  19. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that the federal government has no business bribing churches and faith-based organizations with federal tax dollars.
  20. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that federal agents who murder American citizens should be held to the same laws and punishments that any other citizen would be held to. (Can anyone say, “Waco” and “Ruby Ridge”?)
  21. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and the FTAA (and similar agreements) are disastrous compromises of America’s national sovereignty and independence.
  22. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to see congressmen and senators be required to actually read a bill before passing it into law.
  23. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that it is the job of government to protect and secure God-given rights, not use its power to take those rights away.
  24. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that there is nothing unconstitutional about the public acknowledgement of God and our Christian heritage.
  25. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that government bailouts and “stimulus” expenditures defy virtually every principle of free enterprise and are a flagrant leap into socialism.
  26. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that airport screeners have no business touching women’s breasts, using sophisticated machinery to look through passengers’ clothing to see their naked bodies, confiscating fingernail clippers, or denying pilots from carrying handguns.
  27. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that many public schools’ “zero-tolerance” policies are just plain stupid.
  28. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that parents have a right to homeschool their children.
  29. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that governmental seizure of private property is plain, old-fashioned thievery.
  30. You might be a Constitutionalist if you are personally determined to not submit to any kind of forced vaccination.
  31. You might be a Constitutionalist if you oppose any kind of national health insurance.
  32. You might be a Constitutionalist if you believe that U.S. troops are not the world’s policemen, that they are not “nation-builders,” and that their purpose is only to defend American lives and property, not to be the enforcement arm of international commercial interests or global elitists.
  33. You might be a Constitutionalist if you understand that the county Sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer of his district and that federal law enforcement (much of which is unconstitutionally organized, anyway) is obligated to submit to his authority.
  34. You might be a Constitutionalist if you are determined to oppose America’s merger with any kind of regional, hemispheric, or international government, such as the North American Union.
  35. You might be a Constitutionalist if you oppose sending billions of taxpayer dollars as foreign aid; the U.S. State Department meddling into the private affairs of foreign countries; and ubiquitous foreign entanglements that require vast sums of money, create animosity and hostility towards us, and expose us to foreign wars and conflicts in which we have no national interest.
  36. You might be a Constitutionalist if you would like to meet one single congressman or senator besides Ron Paul who acts as if he or she has ever read the U.S. Constitution.

Well, how did you fare? Are you a Constitutionalist? If so, your country desperately needs you to stand up and fight for freedom’s principles before they are forever taken from us. This means never again voting for anyone–from any party–who will not preserve, protect, and defend the U.S.
Constitution. So, don’t just take the test; make the pledge!

TEA PARTY COMMERCIAL…A MUST SEE!

This video is the result from a Mom in Alabama asking her high school son to help with a commercial for the Tea Party she was involved in organizing Boy, does it slam the message home. Here is her note: “I asked Justin if he could help me make a commercial for my group’s Tea Party. He sat down at the laptop for about an hour, and then brought this to me and as ked ‘ is this okay Mom?’ After I finished watching it, my stomach was in my throat. Everyone that I have sent it to has really enjoyed it, so I wanted my friends to see it, I am so proud”.

Always Remember

Today marks the anniversary of the attack on America by Islamic terrorists in 2001.  As with the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese, we should always remember the ones whose lives were destroyed by this act of violent cowardice.   As followers of Jesus Christ, this event should remind us all of the sinful hearts and minds of mankind, serve as a clarion call to repentance and spreading the Good News of  salvation in Jesus Christ, and to never take for granted one single day the Lord has given each one of us.  Remember those who lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy.

psalm23

Embraced Forevermore

by Jimmy Phillips

“As we remember our thoughts of eight years ago
sadness still lurks in the solemn shadows below.
As those towering inferno’s fell to their death
the hero’s within them drew their last breath.

It was a very sad ending to such a beautiful day
all of those people had died in such a horrible way.
The story’s now history as we try to move forward
a hard thing to do when you think of the martyred.

As we remembered our thoughts of eight years ago
those people who jumped from a sky high window.
The ones in the buildings who were trapped by the fire,
the ones on the planes who never knew what transpired.

Police and firemen who climbed those stairs to rescue
anyone who had survived, no matter how few.
Their day had just started and little did they know,
they were the victims of a cowards evil deathblow.

In honor of those hero’s who went in our place
we will never forget you, you’re forevermore embraced
by all of the Americans and the whole human race
as we try to move forward at a slow steady pace.

Each one of you died as a hero on that infamous day,
rest assured that your memories will never fade away.
In the land of a free democracy and in honor of our brave,
we fly Old Glory today and forevermore she’ll wave!”

Deuteronomy 4:7
“For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD our God whenever we call on Him?”

Psalm 33:12

Great thoughts from others

“There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free–if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending–if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained–we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of hosts is all that is left us!” -Patrick Henry

“Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.” -Patrick Henry

“Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? … I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death.” -Patrick Henry

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”
-John F. Kennedy (35th President of the United States)

“Liberty is always dangerous, but it is the safest thing we have.”-Harry Emerson Fosdick

“You are free to do whatever you like. You need only face the consequences.”-Sheldon Kopp

“Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.” -Dwight Eisenhower (34th President of the United States)

“I have never advocated war except as a means of peace.” -Ulysses S. Grant

“I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy.” -John Adams (2nd President of the United States)

“It is the love of country that has lighted and that keeps glowing the holy fire of patriotism.”-J. Horace McFarland

“Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the conquest of it.” -Anonymous

“He who loses wealth loses much; he who loses a friend loses more; but he that loses courage loses all.” -Cervantes

“Brave men are all vertebrates; they have their softness on the surface and their toughness in the middle.” -Lewis Carroll

“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.” -Billy Graham

“Those who expect to reap the blessing of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.” -Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

“The cause of America is in a great measure the cause of all mankind” – Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

“As the union between spiritual freedom and political liberty seems nearly inseparable, it is our duty to defend both.”  “Our enemies have mistaken our peace for cowardice, and supposing us unarmed have begun the attack.”
Thoughts on Defensive War, Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

Church or State?

normal-1In 2009, President Obama, on a presidential trip to Turkey, announced to the world that Americans “do not consider ourselves a Christian nation.”   Wallbuilders has a great article discussing this in depth.  I, and millions more, disagree with President Obama.  We were, and still are a Christian Nation.  Unfortunately, there is a growing trend toward paganism and secularism for many Americans and, if left  unchecked, I believe that trend will continue to bring an end to our liberties.  William Penn rightly said “If we will not be governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants.”  We are very near the latter today.

Separation of Church and State has been the drumbeat of the ACLU the past several decades. However, as the Separation of Church and State article demonstrates, that is not our historical legacy.  Nor is it a phrase found in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. It was introduced and  made the law of the land through 20th century judicial activism and morally corrupt justices legislating from the bench through Case Law.

However, the phrase “separation of church and state” does appear in an atheist document called the Humanist Manifesto.  Here is a quote from their “statement of faith”  “The separation of church and state and the separation of ideology and state are  imperatives” (Humanist Manifesto II, 1973).  The operative phrase here is “are imperatives.”  This “imperitive” continues to be made manifest in courts throughout the USA.  As our religious freedoms are being stripped away one by one, so are our other freedoms as well.

James Madison said “The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded.”   Since the 1960s America has been on a fast track of moral decline.  Secular Humanists talk about morality and ethics without the Bible and without God.  What they fail to acknowledge is that apart from God’s Word, there is no standard of morality.  We have seen the “fruits” of ”morality” that comes from humanistic values: sexual promiscuity, substance abuse, homosexuality, bi-sexuality, other various sexual perversions, abortion, euthanasia, prolific pornography, extreme “wacko” environmentalism, globalism, evolution, and the list of humanistic decadence and debauchery goes on and on.  In short, breaking the 10 Commandments is the rule of humanistic law.

Since 1776, America has weathered trials of all sorts and is today the one worldwide superpower left standing.  However, she is very close to losing that status with the economic and religious state we are in.  America needs to return to the God who has blessed here since 1776: the God of the Bible.  We need a nationwide spiritual revival to retain our liberties and freedoms.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  Okay Christians (called by HIS name), you have a clarion call right from God’s Word. Let’s do it!
