We’re Still Standing for Life in SC!

Written By: Josh Kimbrell and the CEO Round Table Team.

Hey Folks,

We wanted to provide you all with the text (below) of our statement on pro-life legislation moving through the SC Legislature this session. This letter was provided to SC Representative Greg Delleney (R-Rock Hill), who is sponsoring the measures, by CEO Round Table Chairman Josh Kimbrell. We continue to maintain that a strong culture of life is the firmest foundation for a strong culture of commercial and economic success.

God Bless>

The Team of the CEO Round Table of South Carolina

The Honorable Greg Delleney
South Carolina House of Representatives
PO Box 11867
Columbia, SC 29211

Dear Representative Delleney:

I wanted to take a moment to write a letter of both thanks for, and endorsement of, three particular pieces of legislation that you are advancing on behalf of the pre-born citizens of our State. As both I and our organization believe that life is the first civil right, and the right on which all other unalienable rights are established, protecting the innocent has enormous consequences for our State and our Country. That’s why, in the fight to preserve the unique culture of faith, family and freedom that has long come to define South Carolina, the first front is always the fight for life.

In light of this belief, I, the CEO Round Table of South Carolina and our members and supporters, strongly support House Bill 3403 (Born Alive Act), House Bill 3406 (exclusion of state funding for abortion) and House Bill 3408 (freedom of consciousness act).

These pieces of legislation, in combination, represent a powerful arsenal in the fight to protect pre-born babies. From establishing personhood for infants born alive, regardless of the circumstances, to protecting the consciousness rights of healthcare professionals who stand for life, these bills define personhood from conception to natural death. These are the essential ingredients of a free society. Our organization was founded to establish the link between economic and social policy in South Carolina, with the firm conviction that the two are mutually interdependent. As such, we are deeply committed to the sanctity of life in this State.

America is struggling with a staggering debt crisis, because she has long been suffering from a death crisis. The economic impact of abortion is, in very real terms, breathtakingly high. Over the coming decades, this impact will be felt in each American household, as not only Social Security becomes insolvent, but as economic output slows. To preserve freedom, we must preserve life.

We stand with you in this fight. Please, let me know how we may be of service to you.

God Bless,

The Staggering Cost of Abortion

Written By: Josh Kimbrell and the CEO Round Table Team.

As we near the end of January, sanctity of human life month, we at the CEO Round Table want to remind folks of the staggering human, social and economic cost of abortion in America.

Below is a statement from CEO Round Table Chairman Josh Kimbrell on the socio-economic cost of abortion. Take a look, the statistics are as staggering as they are sad.

Stand Up for Life in SC.

-CEO Round Table Team

“America is struggling with a staggering debt crisis, because she has long been suffering from a death crisis. The economic impact of abortion is, in very real terms, breathtakingly high. Over the coming decades, this impact will be felt in each American household, as not only Social Security becomes insolvent, but as economic output slows.

It has been said that, “if there are no children, there is no future.” I firmly believe this to be the case. Conservative estimates, by trained economists, indicate that America will lose approximately $70 trillion in GDP output over the coming generations as a result of abortion. And that’s not the most tragic cost. We have lost nearly 54 million American children in the holocaust of legalized abortion. That is nearly equivalent to the combined population of America’s 71 largest cities.

Many ask me if and when I believe God will bring America to account for this great evil. I would humbly suggest that He already is. We have sown the seeds of discord and economic destruction, as we have taken lives in the name of independent living. I do not, however, believe it is too late.

God is the God of great mercy. America’s greatness may yet be preserved, if we stand together for the babies who cannot stand. May God grant us the courage and conviction to restore America’s families and, in turn, her economic opportunity. May He forgive America and her people.”

Hey Folks,

I strongly encourage each of y’all to attend the “Rally for Life” sponsored by SC Citizens for Life this Saturday in Columbia. This important event serves to remind South Carolinians of our first freedom: the right to life.

March to the Statehouse begins at 11:30am at the Russell House on the Campus of the University of South Carolina. The rally begins on the Gervais Street side of the SC Statehouse at 12:00 Noon.

Featured speaker for this year’s rally is fmr. U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA).

***For more information about the rally visit www.sclife.org

As I’ll discuss on my radio program “Spirtual Cents” in the morning, America’s debt crisis is, in no small part, a direct result of her death crisis.

Inaugural Eve & The Real Meaning of TEA

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

Hey Folks, I hope y’all are well.

January 12th is inaugural day here in South Carolina, and Governor-Elect Nikki Haley will officially take the oath of office as the 116th Governor of South Carolina. As she begins her term, and South Carolina swears-in a new slate of Constitutional officers, I wanted to take a moment and remind you all of the journey we’ve traveled together.

Freedom’s revival is at hand, as folks from all walks of life have come forward for freedom. In order to ensure that real change is realized, we must now take the energy of 2010 and make it the determination of 2011. As such, I’ve posted my favorite 2010 article below. We must fight to protect our trampled values, before the moment to do so has passed.

Here’s to 2011 being the year of freedom’s revival.

The Real Meaning of TEA

Over the past year and a half millions of Americans from coast to coast, including my wife and me, have participated in rallies simply known as TEA Parties. I’m not sure when the acronym caught-on, but it is widely accepted that TEA stands for “Taxed Enough Already,” to which I heartily add my consent. Nevertheless, the main stream media, indeed many within conservative circles, fail to fully grasp the scope of the TEA Party movement. It is not, as some would argue, merely a libertarian backlash to tax and spend policies, which have driven our nation deeply into debt. It is, instead, a resurgence of the American Spirit, fighting for values and ideals that make America, well, America.

As I mentioned, I’ve attended a number of these rallies myself. Each time I’ve come away with a sense of pride in America’s goodness and virtue. None of the rallies I’ve attended promoted fiscal responsibility to the exclusion of social principles. In fact, as my friend Bill Connor reminds me, the lines that draw the loudest applause are those affirming America’s Christian heritage. Some folks are perplexed by this assertion, as they’ve missed the point of the TEA Party movement altogether. This movement isn’t about complex job creation bills, or exclusively restructuring the tax code. Instead, it has simply sought to bring America back to her founding ideals, which are steeped in the Judeo-Christian Ethic.

As I’ve asserted on many an occasion, the protection of private property is inexorably linked to the protection of personhood. To revoke the right to life is to revoke the right to pursue happiness. You can’t protect folks’ farms and not protect their families. The protection of one necessitates the protection of the other. The only way to ensure that free-markets flourish, and that Capitalism succeeds, is to reduce the size and scope of government. This can only occur when a free society is willing to take responsibility for its own. This responsibility is manifest in church and charity, which strengthen our communities by meeting the needs of the afflicted. This responsibility is manifest when families take care of their own, as opposed to leaving them to the mercy of the state.

A resurgence of America’s core Judeo-Christian Culture must be realized before economic prosperity and personal freedom make a come-back. We can never afford to abandon America’s soul in the name of her wallet. If we do, we’ll quickly realize that we’ve forever lost both. I propose that we think of the TEA Party movement as more than “Taxed Enough Already.” With regard to American Culture and values, we should probably say “Trampled Enough Already.”

Slouching Toward Saturnalia

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

The left’s war on Christmas continues in 2010, as it likely will in 2011. A litany of litigation and public harassment continues to be hurled at millions of folks who prefer to call this season “Christmas,” as opposed to the generic “winter holidays.” For the overwhelming majority of Americans, Christmas represents the coming of Christ and the offer of hope to man. To the hard left, it is a season of selective liberty, wherein all views of the holiday are welcome in the public arena, except for the Christian notion. Make no mistake; an assault on Christmas is an attack on America’s Judeo-Christian heritage.

In ancient Rome, it was not uncommon to see garland and greenery adorning homes and public buildings in mid to late December. The festival of Saturnalia, a pagan holiday dedicated to the worship of the Roman god Saturn, is the origin of many traditions still practiced in Western Civilization. As Christianity spread through the late Roman Empire, the celebration of Saturnalia ceded to that of Christmas. Roman Christians celebrated the Nativity on the 25th of December, which coincided with the celebration of Saturnalia. Though Saturnalia was, technically, a “religious” holiday, it was hardly considered sacred. The festival was more of a state-sponsored circus, which closed schools and businesses in from December 17th-23rd each year. It was a publicly celebrated, yet largely purposeless, holiday.

If the American left has their way, we’ll be back to Saturnalia in the short term. The forced secularization of Christmas by liberal elites threatens to rob millions of Americans of their time-honored, and historically recognized, beliefs. For generations, Americans have largely lived by, and the public sector recognized, our Country’s consensus Judeo-Christian Values. In the past, the debate over Christmas was largely regulated to the zealous. Today, however, millions of Americans recognize that Christmas, one of our nation’s most public expressions of timeless principles, is under assault. The left wishes to return to the Roman notion of the holiday: a celebration of nothing in particular, with no principle or purpose.

This is a microcosm of their vision for America. Theirs is a vision wherein our national consciousness, our national soul, is eviscerated and replaced by a soulless sort of determinism. America’s greatness has always been her heart. Alexis De Tocqueville once stated that America is a Country “with the soul of a Church.” Our national consciousness was committed to our founding principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Secular-progressivism seeks to rout these foundations in favor of a radically different nation, which maintains but the veneer of our values.

The assault on Christmas is another shot across the bow. The left, you could say, is “slouching toward Saturnalia,” and they’ll take the nation with them, unless Americans stand strong.

Merry Christmas America!

Merry Christmas, America!

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

Due to a prolonged recession, millions of Americans are tightening their belts this Christmas. Instead of buying bundles of gifts no one will remember by Easter, many folks are opting to reorient their celebration around faith and family. As Americans return to the basics, they may have been handed an early Christmas present today in Virginia.

In their haste to ram-through the Obamacare monstrosity earlier this year, Congressional Democrats omitted a key provision to protect their precious bill. Most pieces of Federal legislation contain a certain section designed to save it from sweeping legal challenges called a “severability clause.” The severability clause functions as it sounds, it allows parts of a particular piece of legislation to be severed from the whole. In other words, if an appellate court determines that a particular provision of a legislative act is unconstitutional, that provision may be removed from the bill without adverse action against the whole. In the case of the socialized healthcare package, no such clause is included.

As a result, a Virginia judge’s decision today that parts of the healthcare bill are unconstitutional jeopardizes the entire act. If the decision is upheld through to the U.S. Supreme Court, the chief legislative initiative of President Obama and Nancy Pelosi will be tossed-out as fast as the people who voted for it. As the overwhelming majority of Americans now oppose Obamacare, this should be welcome news in most corners of the country.

The arrogance of Congressional Democrats has, once again, proven the wisdom of James that “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” In the case of Obamacare, pride just may have gone before the fall.

Merry Christmas America!

Divorce Decreases Dividends: The Financial Fall-Out of Failed Families.

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

It has long been my mantra that social and economic policy are not mutually exclusive, but inextricably linked. Now, thanks to some spot-on economic statistics from Laurence Kotlikoff and Scott Burns, I have calculations to back-up my contentions. In their best-selling business book The Coming Generational Storm, these two authors examine how the failure of families, and the corrosion of culture, has led us down a path of economic catastrophe. I only bring it up, because I believe there’s still time to fix our failure.

Proverbs tells us that, “he who troubles his own house will inherit the wind.” In the case of our Country, he who has troubled his own house is getting it taken away. The mountain of debt that encumbers our country is the result of marginal morality, not the culprit of capitalism. Free-markets operate effectively with faith and family, and falter with a philosophical free-for-all that trumpets relativism over Truth. The solution to our economic problems will be found in the depths of our heart, not the halls of congress.

In the book mentioned above, the authors make reference to another work entitled The Lonely Crowd , which was published as early as 1950, to support their assertion that members of society have grown increasingly isolated. As the divorce rate has skyrocketed, children have been left in the wreckage of broken homes. In our day, the physical life expectancy is rising, but the reasons for living have been lost. In the twenty-first century, we have every device at our disposal to communicate, but true community confounds us. We are, as the book suggested, “the lonely crowd.” As families have failed to aide one another, we have ceded that responsibility to government.

Our massive mound of liabilities results from our inability to come-together willingly, with a sense of community and fidelity to family. The longer America careens down the path of self-indulgence, the faster we face the future of financial ruin. I suggest that we stop making the state our surrogate and care for one another. It’s high time that we step in to save each other instead of stepping back and waiting for someone else to provide for our future. I call upon my fellow citizens to reject the lie of liberal policies aimed at growing government, not promoting prosperity.

As we enter in the first session of this new congress, make a stand for one another, make a stand for self-reliance.

May God Bless Our Families, and Our Country. Merry Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving from CEO Round Table

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

Dear Friends,

As we gather this week to celebrate Thanksgiving, the task before us is clear: the restoration of America. In October, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln’s first Thanksgiving Proclamation made continuous reference to God as the Source of our national success. Last year, President Barack Obama managed to issue a Thanksgiving Day proclamation without any reference to our Creator. This is not only insulting to the vast majority of Americans who believe in God and His role in our Nation, but acutely ignorant of history.

While the President’s actions are troubling, they aren’t surprising. President Obama continues to champion a secular-progressive agenda so radical that it omits the word “Creator” from the thesis of the Declaration of Independence. The commander-in-chief almost always omits the source of our rights as found in the following line: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” Adherence to Natural, or Revealed, law is the cornerstone of the American experience. Our founders believed that the only One great enough to secure the rights of men was the very Creator of men: God Almighty. Therefore, any effort to undermine His rightful place in our nation’s public life effectively weakens the ideal of inalienable rights.

This Thanksgiving, with thankful hearts and clear minds, let us recommit our Country to her cultural heritage. Ours is a heritage of faith and freedom unparalleled in human history. Freedom has flourished in our land because our fathers appealed to “the Laws of nature and nature’s God” for guidance. We must seek to rediscover God in America, if we are to recover America’s economic, military and cultural clout.

This Thanksgiving, pray for our Country’s future. As my wife and I recently discovered we’ll be parents next summer, this has deeper meaning for us than ever before. Please, join us in the fight for the soul of South Carolina, the future of America.

God Bless America, and Happy Thanksgiving.

The Gift of Freedom

Written By: Josh Kimbrell.

(Dedicated to our veterans)

The greatest monument we could construct to our veterans is that of a free and strong America. Perpetuity is the highest form of compliment to those brave souls who risked everything to ensure that the blessings of liberty. Over the past twenty-four months, America’s leaders have taken us down a careening path of disastrous deficits, expansive government and dwindling opportunities in our Country. This is not only a slap in the face to those who braved death to defeat foes of freedom, but a very present danger to our Nation.

Last week the American people resoundingly rejected this failed notion of national decline. Though our Country is faced with profound challenges, the like of which we’ve not seen in our lifetime, these challenges aren’t insurmountable. We must recommit ourselves to the faith of our fathers, to ensure peace for our posterity. In the book of Deuteronomy, our Lord instructs His people, “you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not rule over you.” My friends, for the first time in my lifetime, the great economic challenges facing our people have now become one with our spiritual challenge.

In order to overcome our economic woes, we must overcome our apathy to Truth. America, as Alexis De Tocqueville once styled it, “is a nation with the soul of a church.” So fervent was our commitment to freedom, it was nearly a religious conviction. In actuality, America has always been a deeply religious nation. Not religious in some obscurely faithful fashion, but deeply committed to the Judeo-Christian heritage which gave us birth.

This Veterans’ Day, let’s pledge to rebuild America for our children. Let’s fight to leave them a better nation than we inherited. Then, we will have fulfilled the Lord’s command to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” and honored the sacrifice of millions who have fought for freedom.

God Bless America,
