Begotten by the Word

Day 8: Status Report
Begotten by the Word August 29, 2012. Read Colossians 1:8. "And he has made known to us your love in the Spirit." "How's your church going?" This is a pretty frequent question for me. Either someone is asking me or I am asking.
Day Seven: Two places
Begotten by the Word August 28, 2012. Read Colossians 1:7. "Just as you learned it from Epaphras, our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf.
Day 6: "Getting off Probation"
Begotten by the Word August 27, 2012. Read Colossians 1:6. "...since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth."         You'll never appreciate who you are in Christ until you understand the idea of Grace. Many have a view of the gospel that sounds more like probation than salvation.
Day Five: Hoping or Coping?
Begotten by the Word August 24, 2012. Read Colossians 1:5. "because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of truth, the gospel..." Sometimes I marvel at people whose lives are marked with great faith and great love. I long to have the same in my own life.
Day Four: "Now Hear This!"
Begotten by the Word August 23, 2012. Read Colossians 1:4. "Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all the saints.." Your life in Christ is making a new sound. It's a sound that is being heard by everyone you meet even though may not be aware of it.
Day Three: "The Mark of a life of Grace."
Begotten by the Word August 22, 2012. Read Colossians 1:3. " We always thank God..." The life lived by grace is a life filled with gratitude. In this letter alone Paul expresses thanks, or the need for thankfulness, six times. His heart had been radically changed by the powerful grace of God and was now brimming with gratitude.
Day Two: "Mark, when are you going to accept my love?"
Begotten by the Word August 21, 2012. Read Colossians 1:2. "Grace to you and peace from God our father." Your identity in Christ is grounded in grace and peace. It is your birthright to walk in God's generous unmerited favor and his unbroken sense of well being. Paul begins virtually every letter with this greeting.
Day One: "Identification Please"
Begotten by the Word August 20, 2012. Read Colossians 1:1. "Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother." Louisville to Chicago. Chicago to London. London to Mumbai. Mumbai to Ahmedabad.

Stop Trying to Get to Heaven.
Begotten by the Word May 10, 2012. Read John 5:24. "but has passed from death to life." Christians are not people who are trying to get eternal life. That is religion... to try to get eternal life.  Christians are those, who by virtue of repentance of sin and faith-surrender to Jesus Christ, have already passed from death unto life.
Ministry of Life or Ministry of Death?
Begotten by the Word May 4, 2012. Read John 5:21-22. "So also the Son gives life..." Jesus was and is a life giver. He said, "As the father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life...".  In this passage he is explaining his love relationship with his father.
Does God Love Me?
Begotten by the Word May 3, 2012. Read John 5:20. "For the Father loves the Son..." Jesus lived his earthly life with complete confidence in his father's love. In Jesus humanity you see him express the full gamut of human emotion, from joy to grief to rage.
Hey Dad, Whatcha Doin?

Don't Betray the Hand that Healed You
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 30, 2012. Read John 5:13-16. Anyone can be devoted to Jesus in a crisis, but the true test is in what you do with Jesus after the crisis is over. We all fall in love with Jesus when we need his hand.
Beware of the God Squad!
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 27, 2012. Read John 5:10-12. "It is not lawful...." I am often amazed at what religious people can become upset about. In our story today a man is miraculously healed from a lifetime as a paraplegic. One command from Jesus, "Get up and walk" and his life is transformed forever.
Answering the Wrong Question
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 26, 2012. Read John 5:7-9. "sir I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up..." Can you give up your plan so God can work his? This was the question the man by the pool had to answer.
Your Will Be Done?
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 24, 2012. Read John 5:1-6. "Do you want to be healed?" More often than not our healing is a matter of our own will as much as the will of God. Jesus came into a place where the sick gathered regularly waiting for a miracle.
Inspired, Ignited and Imparting (Part 3)
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 23, 2012. Read :Mark 1:17. "Fishers of (people)" One of the most definite signs that you have encountered Jesus is the effect of becoming a disciple maker.

Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 19, 2012. Read Mark 1:17. "...and I will make you become..." Once the Lord inspires us to follow him and begins teaching us his ways he desires to ignite us.

Top Ten Spiritual ways to avoid the Great Commision
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 12, 2012. Read: John 4:35. "Do you not say, 'there are yet four months, then comes the harvest.'? Look...lift up your eyes...the fields are white for harvest." Christians are never more spiritual than when they are holding back on serving Christ and his gospel work.
It's Okay to Like it!
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 11, 2012. Read : John 4:31-34. "My food is to do the will of him who sent me..." It's okay to love doing the Lord's work! I used to feel the opposite. I used to hear stories about how miserable some people were serving the Lord.

Who is Jesus Becoming to You?
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 6, 2012. Read John 4:1-30. One of the things I love about the story of the woman at the well is how she came to know who Jesus through a process of revelation.
What Jesus Didn't Say
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. April 5, 2012. Read John 4:7-15. Sometimes when I read the accounts of Jesus life giving ministry I am as awestruck by what he didn't say as I am by what he said. For example in today's passage we read the familiar story of the Samaritan woman whom Jesus met at the well in Sychar.
Can you make it through the sixth hour?
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. March 29, 2012. Read John 4:1-6. "Jesus, wearied...from his journey was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour." The sixth hour was about noon. It was during the hottest part of the day, or close to it. Jesus had been walking, probably since the sun came up.
Ministry Savers
Begotten by the Word Written by Pastor Mark Driskill. March 28, 2012. Read John 3:22-36. Yesterday we saw how distraction and comparison can kill any work we seek to do in Jesus name.  John was tempted to get sidetracked on religious issues and on comparisons with Jesus ministry.
