His Joy

Written by James Frost:

We are dwarfed in our attainments
for Him, when Heaven wants its
blessings to pour,
More steps in His Grace, and then
our heart will soar.
God needs hearts that will throb
with the bosom of the lonely,
Not even an Angel can do the job
that He gave to you only.
Into the deep of the Father’s will
is the joy that only He can give,
Constant in His purpose is the
happiest way to live.
Let Thy glory shine out from me,
May this be my prayer, may my
eyes stay fixed upon thee.
Always embracing with purest ardor,
Not my will but thine,
Until my heart is filled with thy
music divine.
His glory shall be wrung from us only when
we are surrendered and believing,
Into the deep of the Holy Spirit, then
true joy we will be receiving.

No Lopsided Savior

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 18, 2012

Read John 1:14-18

“full of grace and truth.”

Jesus Christ embodies in himself the grace and truth of God. He is perfect grace; forgiving the unforgivable, loving the unlovable, stooping down to help the helpless.  He is all that grace should be. His love flows out into the deepest darkest places granting hope to the lowest, vilest and least deserving offender who will just look to him in faith.  He is grace in flesh and blood, more grace even than we would have him to be.  Sometimes his grace is infuriating to our sense of justice and frustrating to our sensitivities.  He is more gracious than we want him to be. He is grace. But that is not all.  Jesus is full of grace and truth.

The risen savior from Nazareth embodies all the truth of God in himself.  He is perfect truth.  Jesus even says of himself;  “I am the truth…”   To the other great minds of the age he would say,  “You may pursue truth or claim to have a grasp on it, but I am the truth.” Jesus is perfect truth. He is the bulls eye on the target of our search for what is right and good and true. Colossians tells us “In him are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  If you want to know what is right and true, you must go to Jesus because he is truths fountainhead.  We must recognize that Jesus is full of Grace and truth.  Not one or the other.  Our greatest errors in following him come from a lopsided view of Jesus that makes him full of Grace or truth.

To say that Jesus is only full of grace is to make him a great cosmic “Barney”.  He becomes this jolly deity that just wants to affirm us and make us feel good about ourselves with no regard to righteousness or holiness.  He would rescue the woman caught in adultery but fail to say, as he said, “Go and sin no more.”  He would visit Zaccheus and tell him not to bother repaying those he swindled.  He would be a negligible savior.  Why?  This is because you cannot appreciate your need for grace without some awareness of truth.  John Wesley said that you must teach law before you offer grace otherwise people don’t realize its value. Much of our feel good preaching today is so intent on accommodating sinners that they come away feeling nothing for Jesus.  They have no idea why he shed his blood for something the preacher says isn’t that bad.  But then we must watch out for the other extreme.

A “Jesus” who is full of truth without grace is a great eternal Pharisee.  He spends all his time telling us to repent without giving us any hope for change.  You see that’s what grace is, not a license for laziness but a resource for righteousness.  Without grace the poor thief on the cross would have died in his sin, Saul would have never seen the light on the Damascus road and Peter would have never recovered from his denials.  They would have all crashed against the cold stony wall of truth and died trying to claw their way up its forbidding height.  To live for truth without grace equals at best a life of self-righteous pretense and denial at best, and frustration, disillusionment and despair at worst.  The world could never have been saved by a savior who was one or the other.  The only remedy for the condition of this world is a savior who is grace and truth.  That is Jesus.  He is calling you today to rest in his grace and live by his truth.  Then he will be all you ever need.

Gettysburg, Evangelicals, and the South Carolina Primary

By Dr. Tony Beam.

There is a particularly poignant scene in the movie Gettysburg where Major General John Buford (played by Sam Elliott) stands just outside the town reflecting on the battle that he knows is about to take place. He is distraught over the fact that unless the Union troops can unite hold the high ground against the advancing Confederate forces they will play out a scenario he has seen before. General Buford says, “We will charge valiantly… and be butchered valiantly! And afterward men in tall hats with gold watch fobs will thump their chest and say what a brave charge it was. Devin, I’ve led a soldiers life, and I have never seen anything as brutally clear as this.”

History holds the rest of the story. Major General Buford refuses to accept the inevitable and he deploys his cavalry forces in a brilliant maneuver that gives Major General Reynolds time to reinforce Buford’s position and deny the Confederates the high ground in the coming battle. It is very likely this one decision to stay and fight when the odds demanded a retreat decided the outcome of the battle on day one at Gettysburg. And most historians agree that Gettysburg decided the outcome of the war.

Today, when I look at the South Carolina primary I feel like General Buford. I have led the life of a political observer and participant who cares deeply and believes fervently in the core values and traditions that have made America great. Nothing could be more brutally clear than the likely result of the Republican primary in this state. There are three principled men who are running as conservatives, one principled man running as a libertarian, and two principled men who are clearly moderate. Unless conservatives and I mean all conservatives including fiscal, moral, social, Tea Party, Reagan, etc, rally to one candidate the vote will be split and the way to the Republican nomination will be paved, by stubbornness and pride, for Romney.

We have seen it before. In fact, 2012 is eerily similar to 2008. In 2008 Mike Huckabee came from nowhere to win the Iowa caucus. His victory gave him a good chance to unite conservatives in South Carolina for a primary victory that would have sent him to Florida with the wind at his back and a good chance of winning the Republican nomination. But conservative Fred Thompson, who did poorly in Iowa and New Hampshire decided to make South Carolina his last stand. The conservative vote split four ways and John McCain used the momentum of a slim South Carolina win to propel him to the nomination.

Here we are again in 2012 trapped in a bizarre kind of Groundhog Day scenario where we keep repeating the same actions over and over. Rick Santorum comes out of nowhere and gets to within eight votes in Iowa of defeating the heavily favored, massively funded Romney. Michelle Bachman, one of the most conservative and honorable candidates decides to step aside. Rick Perry announces he is returning to Texas to reassess his campaign and a glimmer of hope begins to shine that maybe, just maybe conservatives have learned the lesson of 2008 and are ready in 2012 to unite around one candidate.

But Perry decides to stay in the race and soldiers on to South Carolina where he will siphon off conservative votes from Santorum and Gingrich. So here we are as conservatives about to make the same mistake of dividing our votes and handing the establishment candidate the nomination on a silver platter.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Just as Major General John Buford changed history by defying the odds and deploying his forces we can still defy the odds and rally around a true conservative candidate who can win. At a meeting in Texas this past weekend over 150 evangelical conservatives met, listened to speeches by representatives of the candidates, prayed, and after three ballots gave overwhelming support to Rick Santorum. Men and women like James Dobson, Gary Bauer, and Maggie Gallaher who have been on the front lines of the culture war for over thirty years decided to lay aside their differences and unite behind Santorum.

It couldn’t have been easy for these remarkable leaders to make such a bold choice. They must have known that not everyone would be pleased. They knew the risks of endorsement. They knew the odds were great that those who don’t agree would criticize them. But as they stood and surveyed the primary field of battle they refused to accept the inevitable outcome of a split conservative vote. They decided to unite and take a stand.

If evangelicals and conservatives in South Carolina will follow the courageous decision of our national leaders we can change history. Let’s unite behind one very good man… Rick Santorum. If we do we won’t have to look back and lament over what could have been a great victory for conservatism.

Excercising your Rights

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 17, 2012

Read John 1:9-13

“The right to become children of God.”

I think we do ourselves and the Lord a great disservice when we forget what a privilege it is to be called sons and daughters of the most high God.  In one sense all people are God’s children i.e. his offspring.  But that is not what is being referred to here.  The term “Children of God” has to do with more than being offspring. It has to do with being heirs of Christ and his eternal kingdom.

Children of the king have access to the kingdom.  They walk in the authority and power of the king.  This is our privilege.  How presumptuous we can become when we forget that this is a right that has been granted, not earned by some merit of our own.  Too many talk about their conversion as if it were something they did for God and thus have been rewarded with a place in God’s family.

One of the most unfortunate phrases in Christian lingo is, “I accepted Jesus as my savior”. Every time I hear that lately I feel like saying, “Well goody for you, isn’t God lucky that you came down from your high place and accepted him?  How fortunate God must feel knowing all you have given up to make a place in your heart for him to rest.”  How presumptuous we are about our salvation.  What makes salvation so miraculous is not that we can accept Christ but that Christ in all his majesty and power can accept us!  The miracle is that all it takes to enter into intimate fellowship with the God of the universe is simple faith in Jesus and his cross and resurrection.  This is the only way we must come and the only way we can come.  No one struts into the presence of God.

We all come in repentance and faith to embrace the unspeakable gift.  There is no putting God off to the side, “Until I am ready.”  There is no waiting for the most high to prove himself before I let him into my heart.  There is no such thing as making Jesus a part of your life ever spoken of in the New Testament.  He never once asks the disciples to give him a place in their lives, as if he were a pet canary.  Jesus calls us to repent and believe the outrageous news that God in Christ has accepted us on the basis of faith in his name. He calls us to live as sons and daughters, walking in his love, power and authority.  We have no right to do anything less.

Do You Know Who You’re Not?

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 16, 2012

Read John 1:6-8 and John 19-28

“He was not the light…”
One thing that kept John the Baptist effective in his ministry was his sense of who he was and who he was not.  A great temptation among God’s servants in any age is to lose sight of this.  It must have been very tempting to John, with virtually all of Judea coming to be baptized by him, to slip out of seeing himself as a witness to the light, and begin to see himself as the light.  More than once John was careful to deflect the glory away from himself and to the true lamb of God.

How easy it is to lose sight of the fact that you and I are not called to be saviors, but to announce the savior and prepare others to meet him.  John kept himself on the right track by knowing who he was and who he was not.  You may think this a simple idea that barely needs repeating until you consider the many ways we are tempted to slip out of servant mode and into messiah mode.  We begin to think we are the answer to the needs of hurting people and run the risk of doing more harm than good to ourselves, to the people we serve and to the cause of Christ.  In other words, I stop seeing myself as someone and start seeing myself as something.

What are some warning signs that I may be losing this vital perspective?

  1. I stop serving and start controlling. If you find yourself trying to keep the people you minister to under your wing, even when they are able to fly without you then you have a control problem. John the Baptist knew he was only a preparer of the way and not the way himself.  So when Jesus appeared on the scene he sent his disciples to follow the Lamb. We must be willing to do the same.
  2. I stop cooperating and start competing. When I see other ministries, churches, or Christians as a threat to my ministry that is a very good sign that I have an idol, not a ministry.  John rejoiced to see Jesus baptizing more than he. “I must decrease and he must increase.” was John’s mindset.  Is it yours?  Or do you always have to be the one out front?
  3. I stop equipping and start fixing. I once had a seminary professor tell my class, “You make very poor Messiahs.”  How true.  I can spend my whole life trying to fix everyone and keep them coming to me every time they break, or I can equip them to draw close to Jesus and walk with him so he can heal them. John was an equipper, not a fixer.  His answer to all the problems he saw was simple, “Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”  Are you a fixer or an equipper?  Do you keep people coming to you with the same issues over and over or do you seek to help them find the spiritual tools they need to manage their own faith and life?
  4. I stop enjoying and start enduring. One of the surest signs that we are slipping is when we lose the joy of service.  I find that I am most burdened and stressed in ministry when I begin to feel that I must save people rather than lead them to Jesus. My joy is quickly replaced by a sense of heavy self importance that steals my sleep at night and my passion by day.  John said he was like the best man at the wedding who rejoices in seeing the groom.  The person who needs to be the savior has no joy when the real savior shows up.  There is anguish, depression and fear where there ought to be joy, peace and freedom.  Are you enjoying the work God has for you or are you so busy being important that you are reduced to enduring it all?

Friend let us not lose perspective. As Paul wrote in Romans, “For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” (Romans 12:3)

Remember today you are a light, but Jesus is THE light. You are a voice, but Jesus is the living word. You are the servant and He is the savior.  Be blessed today.

Indestructible!

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 13, 2012

Read John 1: 1-4

“and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Too many of us underestimate the power of Jesus over the darkness of this world.  All around us we see darkness attempting to destroy the movement of Jesus around the world.  Governments fight to silence his name.  Societies struggle to push his message out of the margins of the culture.  Critics have made careers of seeking to stop the risen savior.  This is nothing new. Ever since the infant cry first split the Bethlehem sky the forces of this world have sought to silence him. Death itself failed to overcome his life.  Even when the structures of Christendom seem bent on self destruction with foolish crusades and godless inquisitions, scandals and the like, the light has managed to find a way to pierce the encroaching darkness with the message of eternal life and hope in Jesus Christ.

Yet despite all of this too many believers are living in despair, more conscious of the presence of evil in the world than with the power of Christ.  We look on the news and see the world seemingly spinning out of control.  Worldwide economic crisis, gross immorality attaining new heights of depravity, billions starving and oppressed while a few enjoy obscene luxury.  Wars and revolutions are happening more frequently than we have seen in decades. Even nature seems to be in distress. In such times it is easy to fall into despair and allow the darkness to suffocate the joy right out of you.  But that only happens when you forget one simple fact.  ”The light shines in darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”

You may be facing your own darkness.  You may be looking around at the ruins of your own difficulties and wondering if there is hope.  You may be hearing the dark lies of the enemy telling you it’s all over and there is no hope.  But I want to encourage you today to remember that as a child of God through Jesus Christ you possess within you the indestructible light of the world.  You may be insulted, treated unfairly, even betrayed but you cannot be overcome.  Christ has made you an overcomer, not an undergoer. He has defeated all the forces of hell with his blood.  You share in his victory.  Remember the one who said “I am the light of the world.” Also says, “You are the light of the world.” He has identified you with himself and made you unstoppable, unbreakable, undefeatable.  The key is to keep close to him and never stop seeking his power in your life.  You must become desperate for his presence in your life.  As you seek him and rely on him you will find unlimited power for your life.  God bless you today…, oh! I see he already has.

First NDAA; Now Enemy Expatriation Act

By Chuck Baldwin
January 12, 2012

On the heels of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), otherwise known as the “Indefinite Detention Act,” comes another draconian bill designed to give the federal government the power to turn American citizens into enemies of the state for virtually any reason it deems necessary. Stephen D. Foster, Jr. has the story.

“Congress is considering HR 3166 and S. 1698 also known as the Enemy Expatriation Act, sponsored by Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Charles Dent (R-PA). This bill would give the US government the power to strip Americans of their citizenship without being convicted of being ‘hostile’ against the United States. In other words, you can be stripped of your nationality for ‘engaging in, or purposefully and materially supporting, hostilities against the United States.’ Legally, the term ‘hostilities’ means any conflict subject to the laws of war but considering the fact that the War on Terror is a little ambiguous and encompassing, any action could be labeled as supporting terrorism.”

Foster goes on to say, “I hope I’m wrong, but it sounds to me like this is a loophole for indefinitely detaining Americans. Once again, you just have to be accused of supporting hostilities which could be defined any way the government sees fit. Then the government can strip your citizenship and apply the indefinite detention section of the NDAA without the benefit of a trial.”

See Foster’s report at: http://tinyurl.com/7thcxad

Ever since Congress passed the Patriot Act back in 2001, it seems the floodgates have been opened for more and more intrusions and abridgements of those fundamental liberties expressly protected in the Bill of Rights. From the Patriot Act, to the Military Commissions Act, to the NDAA (Indefinite Detention Act), and to now the Enemy Expatriation Act (EEA), these big government toadies in Washington, D.C., are clearly and unmistakingly declaring war on the American people.

I invite readers to see my column on the NDAA at: http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?p=4382

Have we forgotten the MIAC report out of the State of Missouri back in 2009? In that official State report, supporters of Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin were identified as potential dangerous “militia members,” and Missouri State law enforcement officials were notified to be on guard. Beyond that, anyone that identified themselves as being pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, anti-Federal Reserve, Christians who believe in the return of Christ, and even returning Iraq War veterans were likewise targeted as potentially dangerous to Missouri State law enforcement personnel.

After the MIAC report surfaced, Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and I sent a letter to the governor of Missouri demanding that the report be removed and that the State of Missouri repudiate the report. After a firestorm of outrage by thousands of Americans all over the country (not just in Missouri) the State of Missouri did indeed remove and repudiate the report.

Totalitarian regimes throughout history have attempted to marginalize those people that the state intended to target for persecution. Once a group or groups of people had been sufficiently marginalized, it wasn’t long before public condemnation and then military retaliation took place. Legislation such as the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, the NDAA, and now the EEA authorize military power to be used against US citizens, and given the propensity of government propagandists in the National Press Corps to marginalize groups of people whose ideas are thought to be politically incorrect, it’s only a matter of time before the executive branch of the federal government begins utilizing the dictatorial powers that have been granted to it by Congress. And, unfortunately, many State governments seem more than willing to participate in the Machiavellian machinations put forward by Washington, D.C. The MIAC report in the State of Missouri is a prime example.

Sadder still is the way so many Christian pastors and churches have become little more than glorified cheerleaders for Statism and Militarism. While the Trojan Horse of Big Government sits unnoticed in Town Square, so-called Christians spend most of their time either trying to kill each other because of differences of opinion over secondary doctrines, or trying to turn their worship services into miniature versions of Walt Disney World.

I ask you, did you hear anything from your pastor regarding NDAA? Did you hear anything from your pastor regarding the Patriot Act or the Military Commissions Act? If not, do you really think you will hear him say anything about the EEA? Again I ask you, are not the fundamental principles of liberty as valuable and as scriptural as the so-called “family values” we hear pastors talk so much about? I would argue that without the undergirding foundational principles of liberty (codified in the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights), the so-called “family values” would become moot very quickly! Before Hitler’s government could begin marching people off to concentration camps, it had to destroy the foundational elements of liberty in the hearts and minds of the German people–including German pastors and churches. A government that doesn’t respect your liberty will not respect your life, your family, your religion, or your morality!

At this point, I invite readers to watch my address from last Sunday, January 8, 2012. In this address, I deal forthrightly with the NDAA and show the scriptural instruction regarding how unlawful and illegitimate government is the chief source of “tribulation” that the Bible talks so much about. I also give a scriptural outline as to how Christian people are to relate and respond to government–both good and bad. Watch my Sunday address at: http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?p=4400

While we are on the topic of liberty, someone has produced a fascinating clip of Congressman Ron Paul showing the predictions he made on the floor of the US House of Representatives back in 2002–along with the fulfillment of those predictions in subsequent news headlines. People who view this brief You Tube video might just begin to understand why Congressman Paul is the only Presidential candidate who truly understands the causes of this loss of liberty taking place in our land. See Dr. Paul’s speech on the House floor at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGDisyWkIBM

Given the way congressmen and senators from both major parties are willing to grant dictatorial powers to the President, it seems likely that the EEA will pass in much the same way as did the NDAA. It seems to me that the longer we keep expecting Washington, D.C., to solve our problems, the more our problems will increase. Remember the sagacious words of President Ronald Reagan: “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” Listen to that quote at: http://chuckbaldwinlive.com/home/?p=145

If we are going to “guard and defend” (Daniel Webster) our liberties, it is going to take states and local communities to do it, because those miscreants in Washington, D.C., are doing everything they can to dismantle our liberties, not protect them. We need State governors, lieutenant governors, attorney generals, and sheriffs to stand in the gap NOW! And in that vein, I invite readers to follow the Fanning-Baldwin Montana gubernatorial campaign at the following Facebook and Twitter pages:

In the meantime, beware! The Enemy Expatriation Act is coming soon, and with the way things are going, YOU could be deemed the enemy!

Meditation #5 The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” Psalm 138:8

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 12, 2012

Read: Psalm 138:8

For the final part of this meditation Spend some time giving thanks to God for his work in your life and his promise to fulfill his purpose in you.

“For me” – God is invested in me personally. Rejoice with me that we don’t serve a God who is running over us with some impersonal grand design in which we are powerless pawns. God’s grand purpose in history involves me. What a miracle that the infinite can be so concerned with the finite. The scriptures are brimming with examples of God at work with individuals. He spoke with Abraham and Moses as a man speaks with hsi friend. He came to earth through the womb of a young girl who he called by name. Then our Lord Jesus told his disciples, “I no longer call you servants, but I have called you friends.” In revelation those who overcome are promised a white stone with “a new name that only God knows.” Can it be that the infinite God can become so personally aware of each person? David rejoices in this fact in the Psalms, “You are intimately acquainted with all my ways.”

Oh friend, rest in the knowledge that God has a purpose for you that is designed for who you are and what you are. You don’t need to try to qualify or work your way into God’s purpose. Your life is literally woven into the eternal purpose of God. Just determine to be completely who you are for his majestic glory. Put away sinful attitudes and actions for sure, but never let anyone talk you out of who God has created you to be. You are God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus for good works that God has already planned in advance for you (Ephesians 2:10). Refuse to be anything less. Rest in the promise that God is committed to fulfilling his purpose for you as you walk by faith.

Meditation #4 “The Lord will fulfill his purpose…”

Written by Pastor Mark Driskill
January 10, 2012

God is at work with a definite purpose. Too many think of God as some kind of genie who sits around in the heavens waiting for someone to need him. They suppose He is an idle deity just waiting for something to get involved in. It’s really inaccurate to pray for God to begin to move, as if He had been idle until now. The fact is God has been at work according to a definite purpose longer than any of us have been praying, or even living.

God has a purpose of redemption for all who will turn to him by faith. He is constantly at work to establish his kingdom on the earth. So when I pray it is not my job to shake God into action and get him involved in my purpose. This kind of prayer is doomed from the beginning. Rather I must determine, in prayer, to line my prayers up with the purpose of God. I need to seek God’s face, before I seek His hand in other words. God is not interested in being a part of my life. He is my life and calls me to find all I need in relation to him and his purpose.

How much of your life is connected to the redemptive purpose of God? How much is contrary to it? To the degree the latter is true I will find myself frustrated and hopeless. But as I line up with God’s purpose I find my soul flooded with contentment and peace. Like the long sought after piece of the jigsaw puzzle as it clicks into place, suddenly life makes sense when I follow Jesus simple command: “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…”

Why Rick Santorum Should Be President Of The United States

By Dr. Tony Beam.

“Game on.” Those two words, spoken by Rick Santorum as he addressed a room full of Iowa supporters on the night of his stunning come from behind near victory, shook the establishment Republicans right down to their socks. In a moment, the coronation of Mitt Romney as the undefeatable choice to unseat President Obama was put on hold. A premature victory pronouncement was snatched from mouth of the mainstream media as Iowans realized they didn’t have to bow to the inevitable. They really could make a choice and the choice they made was to turn their collective backs on the pundits and the political prognosticators and pick Rick.

For months, polls reflected a strong resonance with Santorum as a man, his morals and his message. So why couldn’t he slog his way out of single digits and into the top tier of the Republican field? Over and over the answer was “I like Santorum but he just can’t win.” Then Bob Vander Plaats decided to step out of the shadows of the evangelical community and endorse Santorum. Like some kind of political energizer bunny, Vander Plaat’s endorsement keeps going and going and going. It brought others off the bench and into the game, as people were encouraged to suit up and follow his example.

What began as “game on” for conservatives could quickly become “game over” if South Carolina repeats the mistake of 2008. For those who need a refresher course, Mike Huckabee came out of nowhere in Iowa winning a great victory. He lost in New Hampshire, setting up a must win situation for him in a state that was made for his conservative message and evangelical values. But there were at least four candidates on the ballot with conservative credentials and the conservative vote was split just enough to give John McCain the victory and ultimately, Barak Obama the keys the White House.

It’s beginning to feel like déjà vu all over again. The surge Santorum received in Iowa will likely be blunted by a Romney win in New Hampshire. Once again, South Carolina will decide whether the Republican Party will return to its roots in Reagan or if we will turn to another moderate who offers “pale pastels over bold colors.” If conservatives unite we can give the Tea Party patriots who stormed into Washington in 2010 a Chief Executive who will stand with them in their fight to reign in an out of control government.

Rick Santorum should be president for three basic but important reasons. First, his policies are sound. His economic recovery plan includes a reduction of federal non-defense discretionary spending to 2008 levels by enacting across the board spending cuts. He has called for and pledged to sign into law the repeal of ObamaCare and to replace it with market based healthcare innovation and competitive, market based solutions that will leave healthcare choices where they belong…. between doctors and their patients. Santorum has called for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution and a capping of government spending to 18% of GDP. Just this past week the debt to GDP ratio crossed 100%. Without these bold economic moves within a very few years America will be reduced from a world economic leader to a third world economic shell.

Santorum has proposed reforming Social Security and putting it on a path to sustainability by a host of measures including moving back the retirement age for younger workers, offering voluntary alternatives for retirement funding, and making sure Social Security payroll taxes are dedicated to Social Security. His plan to restore America’s place as the undisputed leader in manufacturing includes reducing the corporate income tax on manufacturers from 35% to 0%. The tax on repatriated taxable corporate income will drop from 35% to 0% for companies that invest those repatriated funds in domestic business expansion.

Rick Santorum has promised to secure the border, enforce immigration laws, support states that are trying to deal with illegal immigration, and to make sure those who hire illegal workers are punished. He would defund Planned Parenthood while supporting adoption programs and defend the Defense of Marriage Act and a constitutional amendment to protect marriage as an institution that is solely between a man and a woman.

On foreign policy Santorum has promised to stand by Israel, stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and to restore the role of American leadership and respect in the world.

The second reason to support Santorum is the stability of his personal life. His commitment to his wife and family as a husband and father reveals a man of character who is willing to keep his word. You can’t be pro-family when your family is in disarray. Show me a man who is willing to lead in the home and I will show you a man who is a leader in the world.

Finally, Santorum deserves our support because of his passion for God. He has had his faith tested in the crucible of personal trial and in the pressure cooker of public attacks against him because of his strong stands on moral issues. His personal relationship with Jesus Christ has in the past and continues in the present to sustain and strengthen him. The book of James says, “Count it all joy my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2).

All of the candidates for the Republican nomination have their strengths. But only one can be the standard-bearer of true conservatism. As Gary Bauer said in his endorsement of Santorum the next Ronald Reagan has been right in front of us. We need to unite behind him and lift him to victory.
